KYC is the due diligence stage before onboarding a customer or client: performing sufficient investigation and checks so that both the identity of the prospective client (individual or corporate) and the nature of the prospective client as a good faith actor, not subject to international sanctions, and has not been involved in criminal activities can be confirmed.

CDD is under KYC, and represents ongoing monitoring of client behaviour, including financial activities, and assessing risk, particularly with regard to the purpose of the relationship with the service provider.

KYB is the term for exclusively corporate due diligence, i.e. due diligence on corporate entities, rather than due diligence on individuals.

A further term used under KYC, is EDD - Extended Due Diligence -  for particularly high risk clients such as Politically Exposed Persons, and when doing business in high-risk countries.

EDD is a further level of checks to avoid doing business with any individuals or companies engaged in fraud, money laundering and terrorist financing, under Anti Money Laundering / AML ,finance of terrorism  / CFT and further legislation.

Supplier risk management is the process of knowing, tracking, responding to and mitigating supplier risk. A supplier becomes a risk when its ability to provide key services or products is impacted or fails due to financial issues, geopolitical events, natural disasters, cyber security breaches, capacity issues, or when its reputation is at stake due to failure to comply with sustainability/environmental, social and governance (ESG) requirements.
